Best Wrist- Mounted GPS
The Garmin Foretrex 401 GPS is my favorite wrist mounted GPS. It is lightweight and feels like a regular watch weighing 3 oz. Never get lost again with this GPS system!
The great thing about this product is you don’t have use of both of your hands. You don’t have to worry about pulling out a GPS to check your location, its already in line of sight.
With the Garmin Foretrex 401 you don’t have to worry about getting lost. This GPS system will keep track of your path displayed as a dotted trail on the LCD screen.
If it rains you don’t have to worry, the Garmin Foretrex is a waterproof GPS. It is perfect for any conditions that come your way!
This GPS keeps track of all your routes, tracks your waypoints, and it could also track your heart rate if you buy the monitor which is sold separately.
The Garmin Foretrex takes 3 AAA batteries and has a battery life of 17 hours. It has a back light as well so you can see your every move even in the darkest places.
When you purchase the Garmin Foretrex you will get the item of course and along with that you will get a usb cable, the wrist expansion strap, and the manuals.
After all is said and done with your hikes and you want to store your activities and get detailed information, all it takes is a simple connection to your computer and log on to Garmin Connect.
Garmin Connect is a site that offers an activity table that allows you to view your activities using Google Earth.
How the Garmin Foretrex 401 Helped Me In The Military
The Garmin Foretrex has the Military Grid Reference System (MGRS). The MGRS is the geocoordinate standard used by NATO militaries for locating points on earth.
Being an infantryman, we go to the field a lot and do a lot of land navigation. Land navigation is a trade that has to constantly be done because in due time you will forget what you learned.
When I go out to the field and they appoint me as the platoon point man, a lot of pressure is on me because if I get lost our whole platoon gets lost.
I’m good at Land Nav but with a lot of pressure on me I can’t afford to get lost so I use my Garmin Foretrex to boost up my confidence.
All I do is plot my points and enter it into my Garmin and it will do all the work for me. It will show me my total distance to way point, the elevation, and my speed.
The Garmin Foretrex 401 runs off of satellite and I have never encountered an issue with satellite capture or loss of signal.
This GPS hasn’t let me down and I know it won’t let you down either, it has always got me where to I need to go with zero problems.
Whether it be for hiking or if in the military it is a really great investment, for you will do a Land Nav course at some point in your career.
I recommend the Garmin Foretrex 401 for anyone who loves to be outdoors and wants to explore the world without getting lost.
