What the Galaxy Gear S2 Smart Watch has to offer…
The Galaxy Gear S2 is one sweet smart watch. One of the things that stood out to me when I first purchased it was the rotating navigation bezel. The rotating navigation bezel makes it 10x easier to navigate through your notifications, apps, and widgets.
The Gear S2 has a 360 x 360 AMOLED touchscreen which gives you nice crisp images and sharp text on a compact 1.2-inch display.
The style of the Gear S2 is a circular face rather than a bigger square face like the Gear S. It fits great on your wrist and it is so much more comfortable than the other watches Samsung came out with.
The Gear S2 has a built in S- Health so you can track your heart rate, steps taken, all on your wrist without having to break out your phone.
It is compatible with most Android smartphones that run Android 4.4 or later with a 1.5GB Ram, and not just Samsung phones, so that is a big plus. It also has a 4 GB internal storage, built in bluetooth 4.1 and 802.11 b/g/n wifi, and a dual core 1.0 GHz processor for a fast and responsive operating system.
The types of Gear S2’s
When purchasing the Samsung Gear S2, be sure to know which one you are getting because there are different types of Gear S2’s out, one that is 3G and other that is bluetooth only. Also the Gear S2 is available in a Sports model and a Classic model.
The Sports model runs a little cheaper than the classic model. The difference is the sports model comes with a grey bezel with a dark grey rubber band or a silver bezel with a white rubber band costing around $249. The Classic version costing around $294 comes with a nice shinny black bezel with a black leather band, of course once you hear leather you already know it’s going to cost you a bit more.
Now the other thing you have to look out for when buying your Gear S2, not a lot of people know that there is a 3G version and a bluetooth only version.
The Gear S2 3G version allows you to make calls and has the built in microphone, the bluetooth version can allow you to do most things that the 3G version can do but you can’t make phone calls because the bluetooth version doesn’t have a microphone. I really don’t know why they couldn’t just make one version that does it all, maybe the next one that they make will all be one model rather then a 3G model and a Bluetooth only model.
The 3G version of the Gear S2 can be bought from your cell phone provider, I’ve been to other retail stores that have the Gear S2 but it’s the bluetooth only version that doesn’t have the calling capability. When I ask where to get the 3G version Gear S2, they tell me I can only get it from my cell phone provider.
I’m sure you can find them online but just in case you can’t and you want the 3G version, check out your cell phone provider.
The difference with the 2 types is the 3G version is a little more thick due to the space needed to install the microphone but the watch still sits comfortable on your wrist.
With the Gear S2 3G version, you are able to make calls and text without having your phone on you. You just set the Gear S2 to call forwarding with your mobile device and you’re able to leave your phone behind and still make calls. With the bluetooth only version, you need your phone on you to send out texts and things of that nature.
It’s great for people that always rush out the house to work and forget their phone. So in other words it’s great for me.
Notifications and Apps
With the Samsung Gear S2, you can access all your emails, texts, calendar notifications, news, and sports updates all on your wrist without wasting your time taking your phone out of your pocket just to check something so simple.
You can be in an important meeting and get the scores of your favorite sports team without bothering anyone. That’s one of the many great things the Samsung Gear S2 has to offer.
When texting with the Gear S2, it uses the T9 word keyboard so it makes it easier to type or you can set pre-written text’s. Another new feature is when you text, you can also add emoji’s.
Staying fit with the Gear S2
The Gear S2 has several built-in features to help you keep track of your daily activity levels and meet your exercise goals.
S Health is now a built in feature so you don’t have to use your phone to check up on your stats, it’s more convenient now. S Health lets you enter and track dietary concerns like calorie, water, and caffeine intake and utilizes the watch’s accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer, and heart rate monitor to track your activity.
The great thing about the Gear S2 is you can set notifications to let you know when you have been inactive for too long, or in other words too lazy for a long period of time.
With the Samsung Gear S2, you don’t have to baby it because it is made of durable stainless steel and scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass. You can wear this baby in the gym and straight to work without worrying.
It is also IP68 certified for water and dust meaning you can submerge it up to 1.5 meters deep for about 30 minutes. You can’t go deep diving with this watch so don’t test it for it will break once the pressure hits. I shower with mine all the time and I don’t have any problems. (knocking on wood!)
Charging and battery life
The Samsung Gear S2 comes with a wireless charging dock and it could last up to 2-3 days off one charge with the bluetooth only version. With the 3G version, the battery lasts a little bit longer because they had to put in a bigger battery to help last with the built in microphone. In reality it could lasts 3 days easy depending on what you really use it for.
The charging dock for the Gear S2 is sweet because it is magnetic. The watch just sticks to the charger and you don’t have to snap anything on it like the older Samsung watches. It’s easy to dock and it looks nice.
Is the Samsung Gear S2 really worth buying?
In my personal opinion, the Gear S2 is worth it. It’s so easy to navigate and it has everything you need right on your wrist.
It’s a smart watch that looks good anywhere you go, whether it’s to the gym or to a dinner party. It also saves you the time of always taking out your phone to check updates from sports or emails.
My biggest thing is the urge to check my phone while driving when I receive a notification. It’s against the law to do that and it puts a lot of lives in danger. Now with the Gear S2 you can easily take a quick glance to see the importance of the notification and pull over if necessary.
Takes away that “I wonder” thought.
